Generate Hreflang Tags for Multilingual Pages
Hreflang annotations help search engines understand which localized versions of a page are intended for users in different languages or regions. They are useful when you maintain substantially equivalent pages for different language audiences, such as English pages for different markets. They do not translate content or automatically fix duplicate-content problems.
Use valid language and region codes
Language values generally use ISO language codes, with an optional region code when appropriate, such as en, en-GB, or en-US. Each localized URL should be absolute, canonical, and reachable. Do not invent a locale because it seems useful; add only versions that genuinely exist and provide a suitable user experience.
Keep the set reciprocal
Localized pages should normally reference the full relevant set, including themselves, and the alternate pages should return the references. A missing return annotation, redirected URL, or canonical pointing elsewhere can weaken the signal. Keep the set consistent as pages move or language versions are added.
Review before publishing
The generator creates tag text from the URLs and locale values you enter; it does not crawl or verify those URLs. Check every destination, ensure the language code matches the actual page, and use the tags consistently in the document head or supported sitemap implementation. Hreflang is a signal, not a guarantee of ranking or geotargeting.
