Estimate Fuel Costs Before a Road Trip
Fuel cost depends on trip distance, vehicle fuel consumption, and the price per litre. Enter distance in kilometres, consumption in litres per 100 kilometres, and the current price per litre. The calculator estimates fuel needed by multiplying distance by consumption and dividing by 100, then multiplies the litres by the fuel price.
Example calculation
A 240 km trip at 7.5 L/100 km uses an estimated 18 litres. At 280 currency units per litre, the estimated fuel expense is 5,040. The calculation assumes the entered efficiency applies to the whole journey; real consumption may change with traffic, speed, passengers, air conditioning, road gradient, and vehicle condition.
Plan a realistic budget
For a round trip, enter the total distance for both directions or double the one-way estimate. Consider adding a reserve for detours, congestion, and price changes. If the vehicle’s efficiency is shown in miles per gallon, convert it to litres per 100 km first or use a compatible value rather than mixing units.
What the result does not include
This is a browser-based estimate and does not fetch live fuel prices or traffic data. It excludes tolls, parking, maintenance, and other travel expenses. Use a recent local fuel price and a realistic average consumption figure, then treat the result as a planning aid rather than a guaranteed final cost.
