Split a Shared Bill Transparently
A clear bill split starts with the amount charged before tip, the tip percentage, and the number of people sharing the cost. The calculator adds the selected tip to the bill and divides the total evenly. This is convenient when everyone shares the same items, but it is not a substitute for item-by-item splitting when people ordered different amounts.
Understand the arithmetic
For a bill of 100 and a 15% tip, the tip is 15 and the combined total is 115. Dividing that total among four people gives 28.75 each. The calculation assumes the tip is based on the entered bill amount and that the people share it equally. Taxes or service charges already included in the bill should not be added again.
Handle uneven contributions
If one person paid for an extra item or a discount applies to only part of the order, calculate that difference separately before using an equal split. Currency rounding can also leave a small remainder when a total cannot be divided evenly to two decimal places. Agree who will cover any rounding difference.
Use it as an estimate
This calculator runs in the browser and does not need an account or paid API. Confirm the restaurant receipt, local tipping practice, and any included service charge before settling up. The result is a transparent estimate based on the values entered, not a payment or accounting record.
