Debugging CSS Flexbox Layouts
Find why flex items wrap, shrink, or refuse to align as expected.
Flexbox arranges items along a main axis, but default sizing can surprise developers. A long label may push other items away, or alignment may differ because the container has no defined size.
Inspect the parent
Check display, direction, wrapping, gap, and alignment on the container. Justify-content follows the main axis; align-items follows the cross axis.
Check child sizing
Long text or intrinsic widths can prevent shrinking. Try min-width: 0 where appropriate, and choose wrapping or overflow behavior that matches the content.
Use a minimal reproduction
Inspect the flex overlay and computed styles in browser developer tools. Test the longest real label at narrow widths rather than judging layout from short placeholder text.
Before relying on the result, test a small example, keep an original copy when a file or value is transformed, and check the output in the application where you plan to use it. Browse the tools directory for a utility that matches your task, and use the other practical guides for related checks.
